Introduction: Welcome to the first episode of "Years Of a Lifetime" I hope you'd enjoy the journey
TEASER
[SCENE: Street, a boy, about fourteen (MAT) walks in with a school bag on his back. He walks past some buildings. Out of one building a girl (MAY) comes out. Mat and May meet.]
MAY: hi
MAT: hi, what's up?
MAY: fine, you?
MAT: fine.
MAY: that's good!
MAT: yea.
[Silence]
MAY: yea…
[Silence]
MAT: you know we really don't talk much…
MAY: What do you mean by that?
MAT: I mean that you and I don't talk very often
MAY: are you calling me a snob or anything?
MAT: No! It's just that… It's not like we have something in common or anything.
MAY: You know what? I think that you're the snob
MAT: What? Why?
MAY: because you don't even know me! We probably have tons of things in common but you just don't want to face it and that's why we don't talk much.
MAT: really? Tons of things? Like what?
MAY: like… um…That we learn in the same class for eight years…
MAT: Ok… That's one thing, what else?
MAY: I don't know!
MAT: that's still one thing… that's not "tons of things"
MAY: Ok… I have another one! What about the fact that our parents work in the same place?
MAT: Ok, that's two.
MAY: Ok… and what about…
[Silence]
MAT: yea…?
MAY: Hey! I found two!
MAT: but not tons!
MAY: so what? I can't find you really "tons" of reasons right now!
MAT: That's true…
MAY: So I win!
MAT: no, no, no… I didn't say that you won!
MAY: So how can I win?
MAT: well… You need to find some… amount. If you'll find like… six things, you'd win!
MAY: six things? And how long will I have?
MAT: all day!
MAY: all day… why do you think that I'd agree to this?
MAT: I didn't really think about that seriously but if you are taking it seriously I guess that you're determined to win and so you'd agree pretty much to anything
MAY: I'm not that determined to win! And I'm not willing to spend my whole day finding common things! I have a life you know! I have a boyfriend! I don't need to find common things with some kid!
MAT: Fine! Have it your way, you lose!
[Silence]
MAY: So what do I get if I win?
MAT: I'll tell you what, if you win… I owe you one! Anything!
MAY: You mean any favor?
MAT: well… sure. But if I win, you owe me one! So what do you say?
MAY: I say you're on!
MAT: Fine! It's a bet!
MAY: No it's not! I don't bet!
MAT: fine… then… it's a…
MAY: It's a game! And the game has begun…
MAT: And we've arrived
[Camera zooms out to see Mat and May in front of a building (school)]
MAT: Have anything yet?
MAY: Don't worry, until the end of the day, I'll have six…
[MAT and MAY enter the building. Fade to opening credits.]
OPENING CREDITS
[Shot of the sky, "Years of a Lifetime" logo appears as "loosing my religion" starts playing. Mat appears at the beginning of the street in the teaser, his name flashes, he starts walking towards some place, meeting May and walking with her as her name flashes, the next one he'll meet is Josh , followed by Juliet, Andrew and Chuck. Finally the opening credits come to an end as Mat goes inside his home and closes the door. All as the chorus of "Loosing my religion" fades out.]
ACT ONE
[Scene: Inside the school, Mat and May walk in, they reach a hallway and meet Josh]
MAT: Josh! Hi!
JOSH: Hi Mat! Hi… May?
MAT and MAY: hi.
JOSH: right… well... um…what'…s up?
MAT: um… which one you're asking?
JOSH: Um… May… no… Mat
MAT: have you decided?
JOSH: yea! Mat!
MAT: oh… I'm fine, how are you?
JOSH: I'm good! Really good and… fine… never been better…
MAT: well… yea… is everything all right?
JOSH: fine! I'm really fine!
MAY: OK, We believe you!
JOSH: What? You… well… yea… I… have to go… I'll see you, ok?
[Josh walks away]
MAT: that was weird.
MAY: yea… that's how he's acting to me since we've broke up.
MAT: you were together?
MAY: sure, we dated last year, can't you remember?
MAT: um… actually no… so why did it end?
MAY: well… he preferred playing football with the guys then dancing with me. . .
MAT: oh… that is a tough choice…
MAY: very funny… anyway that's the third thing that we have in common, Josh is our friend
MAT: I see you're very close…
MAY: well… ok, you're right… that's doesn't counts
[Mat and May keep on walking as we see Josh behind them, he walks into a class and walks over to one of the girls, Michele]
JOSH: hi
MICHELE: hi, what's up?
JOSH: everything is… weird
MICHELE: what happened?
JOSH: I was in the hallway and… Mat was with May
MICHELE: so…? They both are in the same class it's kind of expected
JOSH: no, they were really together!
MICHELE: you mean like making out?
JOSH: no, she has a boyfriend…
MICHELE: then what is it? They're just talking, it's not like they're going to be together
JOSH: I'm not jealous or anything
MICHELE: so?
JOSH: it's just weird, I mean, he's one of my best friends and she's my ex, that's not supposed to happen
MICHELE: well… but it's happening so face it! Anyway, I'm gonna have a cigarette, want to join?
JOSH: since when have you started smoking?
MICHELE: since ever!
[Josh gives her a dirty look]
MICHELE: couple of months but I like it. Want to join?
JOSH: no, I'll stay here…
MICHELE: suit yourself, I'll be back.
[Michele leaves, Camera follows her down the hall, she meets with Mat and May]
MAY: Michele! Hi!
MICHELE: hi!
MAT: what's up?
MICHELE: fine… what are you two doing together?
MAT: a bet!
MAY: hey!
MAT: I meant a game!
MICHELE: ok, fine…
MAY: going to class?
MICHELE: maybe later, I need to… um… get some fresh air.
MAY: oh… I'll see you later.
[Michele leaves as the camera follows Mat and May into the class. The bell rings]
MAT: Well… First period! Hope you'll have more things next break!
[Mat goes to sit, May sits next to him]
MAT: um… excuse me but this seat is taken.
MAY: Yea, but I have to find four more things
MAT: I thought that you have a boyfriend
MAY: I do! I'm not hitting on you; I'm playing a game
MAT: I'm relaxed… But you'd tell him that.
MAY: who?
[Andrew approaches Mat and May]
ANDREW: hi Mat, hi May
MAY: hi.
ANDREW: you know that… well… I sit here.
MAY: I know… But can you sit somewhere else this lesson?
ANDREW: well… ok. What's up anyway?
MAT: everything is fine… Oh, have you seen "Friends" last night?
MAY: you watch "Friends"?
MAT: you're kidding me? I LOVE "Friends"
MAY: me too! That's so good!
MAT: why?
MAY: I found number three!
ANDREW: what is she talking about?
MAT: the bet, I mean… the game but that doesn't mean that you win.
MAY: well no, but I'm getting closer to winning.
ANDREW: yea… well I'll talk with you later, I'm gonna sit.
[Andrew walks away; looking for a seat Josh approaches him]
ANDREW: hi.
JOSH: hi… what are you up to?
ANDREW: a seat… May took mine
JOSH: May? You mean she's sitting next to Mat?
ANDREW: Well… yea!
[Josh looks concerned and looks over to Mat and May]
JOSH: that's not good… not good at all.
ANDREW: you know what? Mind if I sit next to you?
JOSH: not at all.
JOSH: I can't believe they are starting to hang out together.
ANDREW: why is that?
JOSH: That's because that he is one of my best friends and she… and… you won't understand!
ANDREW: Maybe… Anyway, is there any test today?
[Josh gives him a wondering look]
JOSH: what?
ANDREW: do we have a test today? I just thought I should know-
JOSH (Interrupting): don't you study for tests?
ANDREW: no, I study in general…
JOSH: how does someone with your GPA doesn't learn to tests?
ANDREW: beats me, all I know is that I get good grades, some people are just lucky I guess.
JOSH: yea, right… some people are just lucky.
[Josh stares at Mat and May laughing. He looks down. Fade Out]
ACT TWO
[Scene: School hallway, bell rings and kids are leaving the classes. Mat and May leave their class]
MAT: So four hours has passed and you've found… nothing
MAY: That's not true! I found three things!
MAT: Yea, but that's it, since first period
MAY: well you're not helping
MAT: I'm not supposed to
MAY: That's because you don't know how to play…
MAT: no… I don't think so
MAY: big surprise… Anyway, I have to go to English right now… I'll see you
MAT: You know what? If you think that it'll help I'll walk you to your class…
MAY: Sure I think that it'll help!
[Mat and May start to walk away, Josh approaches Mat]
JOSH: hey! Mat!
MAT: Josh! What's going on?
JOSH: nothing, can I talk to you for a second?
MAT: sure, shoot!
JOSH: alone…
MAT: well…
MAY: I'll see you later anyway…
MAT: Ok… Let's go
JOSH: Oh… I'm disturbing, never mind now, I'll see you when…
[Josh stays next to them for a few seconds]
JOSH: I don't know…
[Josh leaves, Mat and May walk away]
MAY: that was weird.
MAT: I agree.
MAY: Cool! You see! Number four, we both think that Josh acted strange.
MAT: you're reaching.
MAY: sure I am! I'm getting desperate!
MAT: Why don't you think harder?
MAY: Why won't you help me?
MAT: because then I'll lose…
MAY: So…?
[Chuck runs towards Mat and May]
CHUCK (running): Mat! Hi!
MAT: hi! What's up?
CHUCK: Hide me! Please!
MAT: Why don't you hide in a classroom?
[Chuck, Mat and May get into a classroom. Cut to: The classroom, Chuck is breathing heavily]
MAY: what's up?
CHUCK: nothing… everything's fine!
MAY: Really? You just happen to run in the hallways for fun asking people to hide you?
CHUCK: you're good!
MAY: sure I am.
MAT: so what? I know that it's because he had another fight with his nice classmates.
CHUCK: you're good too! You both are good!
MAY: yes!
CHUCK: what's up?
MAY: Number four…
MAT: Damn!
CHUCK: oh… whatever. You know, I ran into Juliet earlier, tell me, what's the matter with her?
MAY: nothing, why?
CHUCK: she kept on yelling at me.
MAY: I don't know, usually she's not yelling at people.
MAT: Wait a second… tell me, how did you run into her?
CHUCK: I ran… and I… bumped into her.
MAT: literally?
CHUCK: sure.
MAT: Gee, what's wrong with her?
CHUCK: what did I do?
MAT: nothing… nothing… well…
CHUCK: anyway, I think I should go, you know keep on being mobile not to get caught, see you.
[Chuck runs away from the class. Fade to: next to a class, Mat and May arrive and stop next to it]
MAY: well… this is my class… I must tell you I'm kicking your ass.
MAT: what? Why?
MAY: so many in common, even Chuck.
MAT: Chuck doesn't counts! It's not even a true thing!
MAY: Yes he is
MAT: then that's cheating!
MAY: no, that's winning!
[The bell rings]
MAY: I'll talk with you later.
MAT: sure… bye.
[Mat leaves; May enters the class and sits next to Juliet]
JULIET: You know, you've been hanging with Mat since I first saw you today. What's the deal?
MAY: it's a game. But I must tell you, it's kind of fun hanging around with him.
JULIET: what do you mean by that?
MAY: Hey! I have a boyfriend!
JULIET: What's up with him anyway?
MAY: I don't know… I feel like he's… away. But it's probably because he has problems in school.
JULIET: Yea, I'm sure that seventh grade is that hard!
MAY: hey! Go easy on him; we also thought it was hard last year.
JULIET: Not that dramatic. Not like he thinks.
MAY: Well… you're right. Anyway, it's not about that. I don't feel like we connect like we used to.
JULIET: May, you're thirteen; if your boyfriend doesn't connect with you then you leave him.
MAY: I don't know… there's something so fatal about your advice
JULIET: Say thank you and shut up.
[Silence]
MAY: So I heard that Chuck ran into you earlier.
JULIET: don't even remind me about it. He ran into me! And then he just intended to run away! He didn't even ask me if I'm all right.
MAY: so what did you do?
JULIET: I told him how I felt! That he is a little boy and he should grow up.
MAY: you told him?
JULIET: I may have pushed the tone up a little bit… (May gives her a dirty look) What? If I'm hurt, I act! Besides maybe those guys mess with him for a reason.
MAY: like what?
JULIET: Like, he is annoying!
[The teacher comes in. Cut to: inside Mat's class. Mat enters and goes over to Josh]
MAT: You wanted to talk to me?
JOSH: the bell rang five minutes ago!
MAT: so…?
JOSH: I don't know what kind of meaningful conversation you can do in three seconds but my kind really sucks.
MAT: ok, fine, next break I'm all yours.
JOSH: fine…
[Mat goes to sit next to Andrew]
ANDREW: hi!
MAT: hello, again.
ANDREW: what's up?
MAT: fine…
ANDREW: yea, how was the beginning of the day?
MAT: it was fine…actually it was kind of funny, me and that girl, May had that bet and… that's about it.
ANDREW: so what's up with you two?
MAT: nothing
ANDREW: oh… are you sure?
MAT: yea! What's the big deal?
ANDREW: nothing…
[Silence]
ANDREW: So, is there a test today?
MAT: nope, not today. But maybe we'll get our quizzes back today.
ANDREW: cool!
MAT: aren't you a little concerned?
ANDREW: no, statistics are on my side, I got an A in every quiz in this class so far.
MAT: oh, great. Well I'm nervous.
ANDREW: I don't know why, you're grades are good too.
MAT: yea, but aren't you a little concerned that you screwed up?
ANDREW: I don't screw up, I know the material, and I answer the questions.
MAT: fine… good luck with that.
ANDREW: I don't need it. Statistics are on my side.
[A teacher enters the class]
TEACHER: Quite! Settle down now! Today we'll have a nice lesson which in the end you'll get your quizzes from last week… so let's begin with our homework, page 78…
[Time lapse, the teacher checks her watch]
Teacher: Well… I see that we don't have much time left for the lesson so… to the quizzes.
[A buzz is heard through the class] silence! Quite down please or I won't give them! [The class goes silent] I'll give those while you'll start working on your homework.
[The class starts working, Focus on Mat and Andrew's table, Andrew does nothing]
MAT: aren't you gonna start working?
ANDREW: No… I've already done them.
MAT: what? She just gave them.
ANDREW: I got ahead through the last homework she gave us.
MAT: you know sometimes you're such a…
[The teacher comes next to Mat]
TEACHER: Mat, good job.
[Mat takes fearfully the quiz and looks at it. It's a B+]
MAT: yes! That's great!
ANDREW: You see, I told you that you didn't screw up! Statistics show that-
[The teacher comes next to Andrew]
TEACHER: I really don't know what happened to you in this quiz Andrew. Is everything all right?
ANDREW: Everything is fine…
TEACHER: well… better luck next quiz.
[Andrew takes the quiz away from the teacher]
MAT: what was that all about?
ANDREW: maybe I got a "B-" or something.
[Andrew lifts the quiz up to look at it. It's an F]
ANDREW: WHAT?!?!
[The bell rings, kids start to walk away from the class]
MAT: what's wrong?
ANDREW: it can't be true! There must be a mistake!
MAT: what happened? "C"?
ANDREW: not exactly… an "F"!
MAT: what?
ANDREW: there's got to be a mistake!
[ANDREW starts going through the quiz. Fade out.]
ACT THREE
[Scene: School, Class, Josh approaches Mat and Andrew's table]
JOSH: are you coming?
MAT: just a second .
JOSH: what's wrong?
[Andrew finishes checking the quiz]
ANDREW: no! It can't be true!
JOSH: what?
ANDREW: I've got an F! It's not even an F!
MAT: what do you mean?
ANDREW: It had ten questions… I answered only 2 and a half right… That can't be happening!
MAT: ok, relax!
ANDREW (on the verge of tears): how can I relax?! Look at this!
JOSH: I guess that we'll talk on the next break. . .
ANDREW: My GPA! What will I do?
MAT: ok, Andrew relax, there must be some sort of make up test you can do.
ANDREW: there isn't! it's a quiz, have you ever heard of a make up quiz?
[May enters the class room]
MAY: hey, what's up?
ANDREW: nothing, I don't want to talk about it, it didn't happened.
MAY: what didn't happen?
ANDREW: I didn't get an F.
MAY: you got an F?
ANDREW: it's not even an F! It's… twenty five percent. . .
MAY: well… there must be a make up test.
MAT: nope, already tried it…
ANDREW: I'm ruined, my entire grade is ruined! My entire GPA is ruined!
MAT: Ok, Josh, May, A word for a second!
JOSH: sure…
[May, Mat and Josh go to the corner]
MAT: we must do something. He's falling apart!
MAY: but what?
JOSH: I have no idea.
MAT: ok, let's put it in perspective.
JOSH: what do you mean by that?
MAT: We'll show Andrew that in the long run it's really just a fracture from the entire grade.
MAY: maybe we could tell him to convince the teacher not to calculate it in the final grade.
JOSH: Ok… I mean… that sounds really… well…
MAT: let's do it!
[The three walk back to Andrew]
MAY: Ok, Andrew it's just a quiz…
ANDREW: but it's a quiz with and F written all over it.
JOSH: sure… but…
MAT: But we had dozens of them this year; it's just a fracture from your entire grade.
MAY: yea! Besides how about you ask the teacher to ignore this grade in the final grade?
ANDREW: she will never do it.
MAT: for a student like you, she'll do it.
ANDREW: do you realy think so?
MAT: sure, just march down there and ask her!
[Andrew gets up and wipes a tear out of his face]
MAT: but first remember to tell her it was only for this time and it won't happen again and…
ANDREW: got you! Thanks!
MAY: good luck!
[Andrew leaves the class]
MAY: that was great!
JOSH: awesome!
MAT: we really make a great team!
[The bell rings]
MAT: So Josh, I'll talk to you next break?
JOSH: considering that it's the last break, I don't think so.
MAY: what? The school day is almost over?
JOSH: due to my schedule… yea!
MAY: then it's my last lesson to find common things
JOSH: what?
MAT: never mind, Josh, maybe we'll talk this afternoon?
JOSH: sure, want to come over?
MAT: great!
JOSH: ok, I'm gonna sit. I'll see you.
[Josh walks away]
MAY: you know that's not fair I found plenty of common things today.
MAT: yea, but not enough… you've found four out of six…
MAY: But I found many others that didn't count and why didn't they count anyway? Because you said so! I think that-
MAT: Just give me two more and you win…
MAY: Ok!
[May and Mat shake hands. A bell rings as the scene fades to later: outside of school. Mat, Josh, Michele, Andrew, Chuck, Juliet and May]
MAT: The day is ended…and still… you've got NOTHING!
MAY: and still… I have more time
CHUCK: By the way Juliet, sorry about that bumping into you earlier.
JULIET: Sorry is not enough and it's too late now. Anyway I've got to go. Bye everyone!
[Juliet leaves]
CHUCK: she's SO into me.
JOSH: yea, right, in which dreamland?
CHUCK: as opposed to your land it happened in real land! I think that I'll go too.
[Chuck leaves]
MAT: so… now it's just the four of us.
MAY: actually, I've got to go now, want to join me?
MAT: of course, I've been waiting for you.
MAY: so let's go.
MAT: Andrew, are you coming?
ANDREW (not in there): Huh? What? Yea, sure I'm coming.
MAT AND MAY: bye everyone.
JOSH: I'll see you today, Mat.
MAT: sure, bye.
[Mat, May and Andrew leave]
MAT: So Andrew, did you talk to the teacher? She agreed with what you said?
ANDREW: sure…
MAT: then why the long face?
ANDREW: I can't believe I've got an F, my first F ever.
MAT: don't sweat it; it was bound to happen sooner or later.
ANDREW: what?
MAT: Everyone gets an F sometime. Even more then once…
ANDREW: Well… not me, not from now on.
[They reach a stairway and stop walking]
MAT: ok… good luck with that.
ANDREW: Yea, anyway, I'll see you later.
MAY: see you, Andrew.
[Andrew leaves, leaving Mat and May alone.]
MAT: Well… he's starting to worry me…
[Cut to: Josh and Michele walk]
JOSH: where were you today?
MICHELE: at school.
JOSH: I hadn't seen you since the smoke break you took this morning.
MICHELE: I took a long break! I took almost six hours!
JOSH: you could've at least told me where you are.
MICHELE: Why? Why should I? What are you my mom?
JOSH: No, but I thought you are my friend. That I could come to you if something horrible happened!
MICHELE: What was so horrible? Let me guess, the fact that Mat hangs out with May?
JOSH: exactly!
MICHELE: So you're asking me what you should do.
JOSH: yes! I mean although me and May lost contact since we were dating…
MICHELE: you mean a year ago?
JOSH: yea, but now when I see her, I feel like… I don't know, she's still so important to me and…
MICHELE: you still like her.
JOSH: I still love her.
MICHELE: so why won't you talk with her?
JOSH: I won't talk with her about that! She has a boyfriend.
MICHELE: I meant talk to her in general and not "um… uh… oh…" you have now
JOSH: Ok, but what do I do about Mat?
MICHELE: I don't know, how about you tell him how you feel?
JOSH: that's a good idea! You know, you should smoke more often!
MICHELE: I am a smart person! I just rather use my time for more fun things then studies.
[Cut to: Mat and May as they stop next to a building]
MAT: so this is where you really live?
MAY: you didn't know where do I live?
MAT: I knew that was on my street yet not that close.
MAY: Yea! I'm almost next door! I can't believe you didn't know where I live! I know where you live.
MAT: how is that?
MAY: that birthday you had in third grade.
MAT: well your birthdays weren't at your place.
MAY: they were! Wait a second… Number five! We live in the same street!
MAT: Ok, you have number five… but what about number six?
MAY: the day isn't over yet!
MAT: ok… so what are you doing later today?
MAY: I have to meet Glen.
MAT: oh… and I have to meet Josh, so I guess I won't see you. Ok I win!
MAY: well… but if I find something I'll call you, ok?
MAT: sure… so I'll talk with you.
MAY: sure… bye.
[Mat leaves; May goes to the building's door. She pauses next to it, Then opens it and enters]
ACT FOUR
[Black screen, we hear a phone rings as the scene fades to: Mat's room. He picks up the phone]
MAT: hello?
VOICE FROM PHONE: hello!
[We go to split screen with Mat on the left side and another kid (WINSTON) on the right]
MAT: what's up?
WINSTON: fine how are you?
MAT: I'm fine.
WINSTON: really?
MAT: sure
WINSTON: bummer. . .
MAT: why?
WINSTON: I'm bored!
MAT: so what, you thought my life would give you some interest?
WINSTON: well… yea.
MAT: Well… My life weren't that interesting today.
WINSTON: Like they ever are.
MAT: what's that suppose to mean?
WINSTON: we're lacking the action in our life.
MAT: I have action!
WINSTON: prove it to me!
MAT: I don't want to!
WINSTON: why?
MAT: because… I don't have the time.
WINSTON: what?
MAT: I have to go to Josh's. But listen, when I'll have the time I'll tell you such problems that you won't think that my life is that boring! Okay?
WINSTON: sure… although I'm bored now.
MAT: well… tough… I'll talk to you later.
WINSTON: ok, bye.
[Mat hangs up. Fade to: Building, Mat and Josh walk out]
MAT: so what's up? What's so important that we had to talk outside?
JOSH: nothing, nothing much… so how was your day?
MAT: it was kind of fun actually I hung out with this girl, May.
JOSH: That's what I wanted to talk with you about.
MAT: oh… yea, May is your ex. I heard that today… so what did you want to talk to me about?
[Silence; Cut to: May and Glen walks; silence]
MAY: so what's up?
GLEN: I'm fine… you know that thing with finals is coming up…
MAY: and… [Pause]
GLEN: It looks kind of hard.
MAY: oh… I see… you know Glen, we don't talk much lately.
GLEN: why do you think that?
MAY: because we don't! We're here for an hour and all we talked about was seventh grade...
GLEN: I know… it is so hard…
MAY: But it's all we're talking about!
GLEN: oh… sorry, so how was your day?
MAY: it was nice, actually, I started this game with a classmate about common things and… well… I need to find one more thing in common between me and him. I just can't find one!
GLEN: oh, exciting. . .
MAY: you think that seventh grade problems are more exciting?
GLEN: more then this!
MAY: well… you if you want something exciting I'll give you one.
GLEN: what is that one?
MAY: well… catch me if you can!
[MAY starts running, laughing. Glen starts running after her. Cut to: Josh and Mat]
JOSH: ok, listen, the thing about May is that… well May and me… I'd really like that May and me actually, I'd really love that May…
MAT: will run towards us?
JOSH: what? Why?
MAT: Because she is!
[Josh looks forward to see May running towards them]
MAT: May?
[May stops running and looks at Mat]
MAY: Mat?
[Glen comes running after May and catches her]
GLEN: Got you!
JOSH: Glen?
GLEN: Josh!
MAT: SO… we all know each other… what are you doing here?
MAY: hanging around with… my boyfriend, Mat this is Glen.
MAT: nice to meet you.
JOSH: Actually… Well… Um…we've already met.
MAT: So what's up? Have you found another thing?
MAY: no, not exactly…
MAT: loser!
MAY: don't worry about it! I still have plenty of time.
GLEN: what are you looking for?
MAY: remember the game I told you about, the common things?
GLEN: no….
MAY: well… never mind.
JOSH: Uh… anyway, Mat, we've got to go.
MAT: oh, sure… I'll see you guys later.
MAY: Wait a second, how are you coming back home?
MAT: I thought of the bus… want to join me?
MAY: sure, when are you coming back?
MAT: about eight thirty or so.
MAY: well fine then, we'll meet here?
MAT: sure I'll see you, nice to meet you Glen.
GLEN: sure…
[They separate. Mayand Glen walk away]
MAY: you really can't remember me telling you about the common things game?
GLEN: no, why?
MAY: never mind…
[Silence. Cut to: Mat and Josh walking]
MAT: so what did you want to talk about?
JOSH: so, you're meeting later?
MAT: who?
JOSH: you and May.
MAT: sure… but what did you want to talk with me about?
JOSH: nothing…
MAT: oh, come on!
JOSH: it's nothing, really! I'll tell you later…
MAT: What? What do you mean by that?
JOSH: I mean that now we're gonna go to my place and I'll kick your ass in soccer.
MAT: real soccer or computer soccer?
JOSH: "FIFA" soccer.
MAT: I'm so gonna kick your ass…
[Fade to: later. A bus pulls and Mat and May go down from it]
MAT: so the day has ended… and you found nothing!
MAY: I found that both of us think the end of our day was weird
MAT: that's so desperate I won't even comment.
MAY: Ok, what can I do? I lost! I owe you! I'm all yours!
MAT: Thank you… good game by the way.
MAY: thank you very much.
[They reach May's building]
MAT: well… I guess that that's it, the bet… I mean the game… Is over.
MAY: yea, I'll see you around, I guess.
[They stand in front of each other, silent]
MAY: I still can't believe you didn't know where I live.
MAT: give me a break! I don't remember you having a birthday party. Not one I attended anyway!
MAY: Yea, that's a real mystery. Anyway, Mat, I had really great time hanging around with you today MAT: You know what? Me too! It's nice to find someone who… you have five things in common with
MAY: Yea… something like that… So… We'll talk tomorrow?
MAT: Sure… anyway I think that I'll head home anyway…
MAY: I'll see you.
[Mat starts walking away. May goes to her building door but pauses. She runs towards the street]
MAY: Mat!
[Mat returns]
MAT: what?
MAY: when is your birthday?
MAT: September… September seventh. Why are you asking?
MAY: I can't believe it! I won!
[May hugs Mat]
MAT: what? How? Why? When is your birthday?
[Mat and May separate]
MAY: You know what? Never mind!
[May starts walking away]
MAY: never mind, you won!
MAT: don't do this, if you won, you won. But what is it? When is your birthday?
[May opens the door]
MAY: September… September sixth…
